If you know anything about Belgium, you'll know that the country is famous for beer, beer and comic books! While the capital city of Brussels boasts a comic book museum and comic character murals all over the city, the Walloonian city of Charleroi shouldn't be overlooked.
The Charleroi School of Comics was based in the city that was the home of one of the top comic publishing houses in Belgium, Depuis. Other than Lucky Luc (or Luke), they also published Spirou, which was one of the top comics in Europe along with the Tintin adventures. You can also find a Spirou statue in the city. As a matter of fact, to honor this fictional character their city's professional basketball team is named Charleroi Spirou, and they play their games in the Spiroudome.
