La Bravade
D’Artagnan in the house! For 450 years the towns people of Saint Tropez have been holding mock battles and memorial services honoring the Musketeers and militia that once protected the coastal town from pirate attacks. In addition to celebrating their military history, the bravade is also an age-old provençal tradition honoring a town’s patron saint. Women wear classique costumes while men put on 18th century uniforms, masses are held and muskets are shot before Saint Tropez is eventually paraded through town. Amongst all the pomp and circumstance, the weekend is full of fun and festivities as the Riviera sun shines above.
