St. Paul's Chapel is the church for which Church Street is named. George Washington went here to pray immediately after being inaugurated as our first president.
I used to work across the street and would walk past it every day on my way to the office. I was afraid it wouldn't have survived the crashing towers of 9/11, but amazingly the surrounding trees shielded it from the chaos and destruction.
Immediately following 9/11, it was used as a respite center to aid the rescue workers making it that much more precious as a piece of American history and heritage.
