St. Michael’s Church

Englische Planke 1, 20459 Hamburg, Germany

Referred to by locals as simply “The Michel,” St. Michael’s Church is widely admired as Germany’s finest Baroque-style church. The church was originally built between 1648 and 1661, and is dedicated to the Archangel Michael, who is depicted slaying Satan in a bronze sculpture over the church’s portal. Visitors can climb to the top of the 133-meter tower for panoramic views of the city (day or night) or stand below to hear a trumpet sound from the tower at 10 a.m. and 9 p.m. Monday–Saturday and at 12 noon on Sunday.
