La Jolla is known for pricey galleries and high-end stores selling designer labels - and I admit it's fun to browse in these places - but when I need a present for a special occasion, I head to the St. James Gift Shop.
Located in "the village" area of La Jolla at St. James-by-the-Sea Episcopal Church, this nonprofit boutique is a treasure-trove of colorful folk art.
I love the handmade craft items, the beautiful scarves, and the original one-of-a-kind paintings. I also really love knowing that everything in the store is purchased directly from artists all over the world - and all profits are returned to their communities.
The shop isn't hard to find: colorful kites and pennants hung in a nearby tree bounce and twirl in the breeze.
