St. James Cathedral
Take in the curious mixture of architectural styles at Bilbao’s oldest church—a Gothic cloister, Renaissance portico and neo-Gothic facade and spire. Although it has long been a stop along the northern route of the Camino de Santiago, this temple was only declared a cathedral in 1950 when the diocese of Bilbao was created. Inside, try to identify the names of local merchants carved along the buttresses in the main vault and admire the stone sepulchers scattered throughout.
