Walking away from the city centre, I ambled along the Henrietta Road. On my left, gates to a silent churchyard with ruins of St.Mary's, Bathwick (also known as Bathwick Old Church) lay open, all densely covered with green and flowers. Tall gravestones marked soldiers, members, sextons, servants of the parish. The architect of Bath John Pinch, Dame Eleanora Brisbane, mother of the founder of Brisbane in Australia, and many more from early nineteenth century lay buried. The church yrad was peopleless, solemn, fragrant with summer and a fading history of Bath.
