St. Aloysius Chapel

This chapel, built by Jesuit missionaries in 1880, is situated in the heart of Mangalore on Light House Hill. The stunning interior paintings in fresco and on canvas, which cover virtually every inch of the chapel walls, were created by the Italian Jesuit Antonio Moscheni in 1899 and depict the life of the 16th-century saint Aloysius Gonzaga, to whom the chapel is dedicated. The chapel reflects the significant role that Jesuits played in the Catholic community of Mangalore and throughout Asia.
