Hamburg has some of the world’s most diverse selection of architectural eye candy for the building enthusiast. Amsterdam-like canal buildings, glassy jaw dropping condos and brick expressionism such as the Sprinkenhof building shown here are just the tip of the Hamburg iceberg. Johann Friedrich Höger, the designing architect trained as a carpenter, then apprenticed as a draftsman before eventually opening his own firm, designing buildings such as the Sprinkenhof.
A simple urban walking tour will take you through era after era of living and working built spaces that garner the envy of much of Europe, and the world. Venture further out from the city center on two wheels along the city’s numerous bike paths. They have their own traffic lights, and function as a sustainably efficient way to explore a larger range of buildings.
