A stop at Speight's Brewery in Dunedin is as essential as a Guinness factory tour in Dublin. Speight's has been brewing "the Pride of the South" at the same location since its founding in 1876, and is one of the only springwater-fed breweries in the world. Guided 90-minute tours are offered year round, up to six times a day in summer. Each tour ends with an "appreciation session," or tasting, of six Speight's beers; visitors can also book a package that includes a meal at the brewery's Speight's Ale House (part of a chain found all over New Zealand). Note that covered footwear is required for the tours.
