Snow by the sea
Hidden in plain sight rises one of France’s best kept secrets; the southern Alps, where ski season meets the azur sea. There are 15 ski resorts just 90 minutes from Nice’s Promenade des Anglais, making it easy to start the day at the beach then hit the hills for an afternoon in the snow. Isola 2000 and Valberg offer 210km of slopes for fans of what the French call “la glisse”, while stations at lower altitude are ideal for cross-country skiers. Ski parasailing, dog sledding, and snow shoeing are other activities that are easy to find. Annual celebrations include a traditional Christmas market at Valdebore, a truffle festival at Valberg and a car race on ice at Isola 2000.
