South Klondike Highway
Drive from Whitehorse to Skagway, Alaska
The drive from Whitehorse to Skagway is a day-trip that offers a wonderful variety of scenery, from colourful lakes such as Emerald Lake to a tiny desert at Carcross to a high glacier-scoured valley, the White Pass. At each end are communities which could both be multi-day stays because of the many activities available, and in the middle is Carcross, with excellent boating and mountain-biking opportunities. The drive south, a total of 112 miles, starts on the Alaska Highway, though most of the route is on the paved 2-lane South Klondike Highway.
