Someshwara Temple

Dwarakanagar, Ullal, Karnataka 575020, India

The Someshwara Temple is perhaps as popular for its location, built high above the beautiful Someshwara Beach on the outskirts of Mangalore, as it is for its historic and spiritual significance. The temple is dedicated to Someshwara, another name for the Hindu god Shiva, and the fortlike structure is believed to date back to the 10th or 11th century. For most travelers and photographers, the views of the beach and the Arabian Sea help justify the journey here. Visitors should be aware, however, that while the beach is beautiful, it has a strong tide and rough waters; it is safer to admire the sea from dry land.
