"Please be at home," says Luis Magalhães, General Manager of Solplay Hotel de Apartamentos, welcoming us to Linda-a Velha, a suburb of Lisbon not far from the Tower of Belem.
Arriving at Solplay after a long drive, my husband and I were delighted to "be at home" in a luxurious apartment with a large balcony and a sea view. The 119 apartments, many of them with great views of pool and the Tagus, are large, modern and quiet. A generous breakfast buffet, gym and a 24-hour shop were actually more than the luxuries of home for us.
The food is very good, too. Our seafood dinner was one of the best we've had along the Portuguese coast, and that is saying something (try the oven-baked octopus!).
Accommodating staff and a daily shuttle to Marquis de Pombal Square in Lisbon make it easy to visit the city for shopping and touring about. This is great for guests without a car, or those who just want to avoid the stress of driving in Lisbon.
For quiet comfort near--but not too near--the bustle of the capital city, the Solplay is well worth considering.
