If you know Athens, you know that the heart of the city is at least 35 minutes by taxi and there are no shuttles as in major US cities. You could take a bus or metro but sometimes this is not optimal with a suitcase and gear.
I travel to Greece at least once a year. Last year I explored the fascinating city and shoppers paradise of Thessonaliki, and then traveled to the beautiful beaches of Halkidiki to taste wine and relax. On my way home I found the Sofitel at the Athens airport. It is only a short walk across the street, even when pulling a suitcase.
There is a spa to ease tired muscles, a fabulous concierge for last minute advice and arrangements, club level rooms and lounge if you wish, and my favorite; a Greek-style breakfast buffet.
So this trip I am wrapping up my itinerary of exploring the islands of Alonissos, Paros, Ios and Milos by ferry and heading over to the airport Sofitel to spend the night before flying home.
I won't have to worry about transportation to the airport, or being on time for my morning flight. I can relish my comfortable night's sleep, roll out and enjoy breakfast, and simply cross the street to check in. Absolutely divine idea!
