Located on Staten Island, Snug Harbor Cultural Center & Botanical Garden is a one-stop-shop for visual arts, events and picturesque parks. Snug Harbor's Farm Stand is open Fridays from 3-6pm during the months of June through November. This is their newest agricultural endeavor and one that promotes sustainability.
One of the main draws of Snug Harbor are the various gardens that serve the community. The Rose Garden not only smells fragrant, but there's a reflecting pool in the center area with a sculpture of a heron. Another popular garden is the New York Chinese Scholar's Garden, as it truly is reminiscent of architecture seen in China and other parts of Asia. There are paintings of notable monks of the Confucian, Buddhist and Taoist faiths along with eight pavilions, a bamboo forest path, waterfalls and much more.
Don't leave without wandering through the Connie Gretz's Secret Garden. It's maze-like design influenced by European gardens of the same style. Even though there will likely be other tourists solving the "puzzle" along with you, it's easy to feel like you're the only one within the garden maze.
