We discovered this place about 3 years ago and have returned many times since with family and friends. Nestled on the north east shore of Erhai Lake, Sky Sea Lodge has lovely airy rooms made with wood and fresh white washed walls. The shower and toilets are modern and clean. The best thing about this place is the garden and cafe that are full of plants, fantastic lake views and plenty of space to relax with a book. You can rent kayaks and bikes for day trips and there are narrow little streets to explore. Take a look at the fishermen's homes and their catch and indulge in a crepe at Amigo Cafe, run by Frenchman Max and his lovely wife.
You can get to the town by bus, ask at any hostel in Dali Old Town and they'll direct you on how to get there. It takes about an hour, an hour and a half. It's a bit of a bumpy, dusty ride although they're currently updating the road. This will make it easier to reach but it also means it may get too busy during high-season, so while it's still a challenge, go! And once you make it, grab a beer, pull up a chair and dip your feet into the cool waters and let your worries drift out on the waves.
