The northernmost reaches of the Hyogo Prefecture get pounded with snowfall which attracts winter sports enthusiasts to its slopes each winter. Two of the area’s preeminent ski resorts are Kannabe Highlands and Hachi Highlands. Kannabe Highlands has seven lifts with runs for beginners through advanced. Hachi Highlands hovers at 2,400 feet above sea level and has been dubbed a year-round outdoor sports destination though skiing and other snow pursuits take prominence from mid-December to March. Hachi also has an artificial snow machine on call, so you’re guaranteed a wintry wonderland. No matter where you make tracks, refuel with a hearty aprés ski meal of Hachibuse Nabe, steaming duck and vegetable hotpot, at a cozy inn.
