The language is foul. The stories are funny. The storytellers themselves are an eclectic group of brave, honest, sweet pottymouths—men or women, young or old, black or white or latino, and come from all different neighborhoods. This is Grown Folks Stories, Chicago’s grittiest, most authentic storytelling event.
Anyone can show up and tell a story (five minutes apiece, no subject off limits) and the results are hilarious, cathartic, educational, moving and often gross. The only rules are for the listeners: don’t judge, be respectful and be quiet while the stories are going. And for such a lively, raucous event, everyone does. The sexily funny host Cara only had to shoosh us twice.
Third Thursday of each month. BYOB (so definitely bring something). $5 suggested donation (but definitely give a little more).
