Siem Reap Province, Cambodia
Temples in the RainI reached Beng Mealea, one of the less-visited temples, in the throws of a late afternoon downpour. When I walked in, I encountered a group of local boys, taking shelter from the storm, eating lollipops and chasing a bat with a slingshot and rocks. They were yelling and laughing hysterically as they tried to climb up the walls.
I enjoyed witnessing the reality that while the temples surrounding Siem Riep are historical masterpieces, they also serve as the coolest playground on the planet to the many kids whose parents serve tourists at the temples.
