Sidra Medical and Research Center

In front of Sidra Medical Centre, a hospital dedicated to women and children, is a series of fourteen colossal bronze sculptures depicting the gestation of a human fetus, from conception to birth. This installation, The Miraculous Journey, which is considered the most controversial series by Damien Hirst, ends with a 46-foot-tall fully formed baby boy. Although this work was commissioned under the patronage of H. E. Sheikha Al Mayassa Bint Hamad Al Thani, Qatar Museums Authority and Qatar Foundation, this installation didn’t count with everyone’s approval and has since been the most controversial pieces of art in the country. The work is unusually audacious in a country where artistic representations of the human body are frowned upon. Sidra Medical Center is located on Al-Luqta Road, next door to Qatar National Convention Center and across the street from Education City.
