This picture was taken outside of Goreme near one of the underground cities. My roommates and I went to one of the famous underground cities, but we were not that impressed. It was overcrowded with hordes of foreign tourist groups. It felt so claustrophobic inside. Upon leaving the very touristie site, I was pleased to find a small hidden corner of a real part of Turkiye. I feel like this small corner of gecikondu (illegal housing structure), with its own minaret and cow are a good representation of an authentic Turkiye, one that so few tourists see. If people want to see the "real Turkiye," it's best to go to the East.
