Explore a Lesser-Seen Castle
Built in 1115, Shobak was originally named Mont Realis by the Crusaders and formed part of their defensive line that stretched from Jerusalem down into southern Jordan. Today Shobak occupies a lonely hillock summit amid rolling plains and has a distinctly battered appearance, making a visit here even more atmospheric. There are plenty of chambers, vaulted halls, and towers to explore, but you should bring a flashlight if you want to delve into the lower rooms and passageways.
