The Major Oak
I've always loved the legend of Robin Hood. When we visited friends in England and they suggested a trip to the royal Sherwood Forest in Nottinghamshire near the village of Edwinstowe, I was more than happy to have the opportunity. A beautiful forest for a nice fall walk with well over 500+ acres to explore, the most imposing flora is situated in the heart of the shire. With a girth of over 33 feet and weighing an estimated 23 tons grows the legendary hideout of the heroic outlaw and his merry men. Walking amidst the canopy's of trees and the stillness of the forest, you can almost hear the merry men making jovial music as they celebrate another successful raid on, perhaps, the Sheriff of Nottingham himself. If you enjoy being outdoors, this is a great place to explore.
