Shaniwar Wada Fort
Shadows of the Past
Perhaps Pune's most iconic landmark, Shaniwar Wada is a former palace built in the early 18th century for peshwa rulers. Though a series of fires over the centuries have destroyed most of the complex, the fortified walls remain, as do several of the original gates, making it a site that remains of interest to visitors. A visit to the former palace is included in city tours, but it can also be visited independently.
