I dropped by Seville during Semana Santa and witnessed the amazingly visceral parades dedicated to Christ and his life. People dress in ominous hooded garb (careful, they try to scare the crap out of you), rhythmically bang on drums at all hours, and parade through the streets in their Sunday finest carrying elaborate floats with often-gory and shocking effigies of Christ being crucified. I snapped this picture as a float passed a glowing old church in the middle of the night. The floats emphasize the beautiful architecture and historical presence of the surrounding historic district, with the reminder of the deeply entrenched Christianity that has survived here for ages. This is definitely something I will go back for--the sounds and sights haunt me still!
