Backpacking the High Sierra Trail in Sequoia National Park
This trip was incredible! I am 46 years old and I just started backpacking about 5 years ago. My friend and I started at Crescent Meadow in Sequoia National Park on the western side of the Sierra Nevada and ended at the top of Mt. Whitney in Sequoia National Park on the eastern side of the Sierra Nevada. By the time we exited the park at Whitney Portal, we had hiked approximately 72 miles through valleys, over mountain passes and across creeks. Fly-fishing in the pristine alpine lakes and the Kern River Canyon was an experience I'll never forget. Completing a trans-Sierra hike and standing at the highest point in the contiguous United States, was a dream come true. I now have the confidence to attempt even bigger adventures. Applications for a High Sierra Trail backpacking permit can be submitted beginning on March 1 each year. It's never too late to start training for and planning your High Sierra adventure.
