Sendai Eki

Samurai lantern for tan abaya festival
Beautiful lanterns of all sizes and caricature are seen at malls and on parade during many holidays in Japan. This celebration was especially nice to see in a part of Japan still recovering from a triple trauma of earthquake, tsunami, and nuclear leak. Sendai airport was under 10+ feet of water after the 3/11/11 disaster. Although this sound like a small volume compared to Fukushima at 30 meters, one has to remember Sendai is 3 miles from the Pacific Ocean.

These beautiful and fun lanterns can light up the parades at night, and leave a glow on the faces of all the observers.
