At 5am the Schrannenmarkt is set up in Salzburg’s old town. Some of the farmers selling their fresh produce here have been doing so for decades – the waiting list for one of the coveted stands can be ten years. If you want to get the first pick, come early in the morning and watch the tables fill with perfectly ripe foot, chesses and warm bread. Buying here will not only ensure top quality and local origin, but also a fun, authentic shopping experience. Austria’s farmers markets are old and carry a certain prestige in each city, allowing only the best products to be sold there. The Schrannenmarkt is no exception and you should see for yourself what all the fuss is about.
