During my stay in Dresden I took a boat ride along the Elbe River until we reached Pillnitz Castle, one of Europe's most impressive chinoise complexes. It is also where several Kings of Saxony resided during their summers.
There are regular boat rides that take you to Pillnitz and the ride is very scenic. Surrounded by vineyards and landscape of the Elbe Valley, Pillnitz is well worth a visit for anyone interested in either architecture or gardens.
The complex has three main attractions: the Riverside Palace (Wasserpalais), the Upper Palace (Bergpalais) and the New Palace (Neues Palais). The buildings all face a Baroque garden and spacious public park.
