Renaissance prince Franz Ferdinand II left a sizable heritage to the country of Austria. Alongside his striving achievements in culture and technology, the Ambras Castle is a chief reminder of his visionary reign. It is half a millennium old and certainly has stories to tell. The complex itself is positively stunning, but the treasures held inside will make a visit unforgettable. The Habsburg portrait gallery is on display in the upper castle, with works ranging from the middle ages to the 18th century. Watch the Habsburg empire rise and fall before your eyes and marvel at the 200 pieces of the old masters shown here.
