What do you get when you mix snails, frog legs, tacos, and hot chilies with Aussie bartenders and live music? The answer is hidden in Williamsburg, masquerading as your everyday, neighborhood haunt, and it can be easily missed if you're not looking to find it.
Ladies and gentleman, meet Santos Anne.
This is one of my favorite spots in Brooklyn because it has achieved that elusive balance of creative menu options, reasonable prices, and cozy atmosphere. It's not only the friendly staff, but the amazing food that will keep you coming back. Specializing in what has been dubbed "Frexican" food, SA will fill your belly with creative, delicious dishes like spicy escargot, "Le Croque Mexicano," and my favorite, the duck tacos.
On most nights, they also have live local bands perform, and in such a small space, it feels like the singers are serenading only you. The only other thing that would make this place absolutely perfect is if the charming Australian bartenders weren't all married with kids (of course I had to ask.) But that doesn't mean they still won't give you an occasional free shot of the house blend if you chat them up: tequila infused with rosemary and figs. Delicious!
