Santa María de DotaNature- and caffeine-lovers alike can rejoice on a trip to one of Costa Rica’s most beautiful towns. Just an hour and a half from downtown San José, Santa María de Dota is the source of some of the world’s very best coffee blends. The area’s green and secluded valley is home to Coopedota, an agricultural cooperative where you can tour the coffee plantation then sip a delicious cup of joe at the attractive café. Buy one-of-a-kind monofloral honey (made from the nectar of coffee blossoms), or stretch your legs with a hike through Los Quetzales National Park in nearby San Gerardo. If you opt for the hike, don’t forget your boots, a jacket, binoculars, and your camera. There are over 200 bird species in the area and you wouldn’t want to miss out on any quetzal feathers.
