Santa Cruz is home to many wonderful restaurants that offer a variety of cuisines. One such place is Cafe Brasil, a cozy restaurant with dark-green exteriors, located off of Mission street, made conspicuous only by the swaying banana plants in front. We stopped here for brunch on a sunny Saturday afternoon and were delighted with the friendly smiles, attentive service and mouthwatering food.
Their famous acai bowl is a winner, as are their many authentic Brazilian dishes like Muquecas with shrimp (comes with rice and farofa) and Bacalhoada (sauteed codfish with potatoes, green olives and garlic). They even have Feijoada on their menu!
But make sure to leave place for Platanos Fritos (Fried Plantain) which comes with Lizano sauce (a tongue-tickling combination of salty, tangy and sweet). The fried ripe fruit masquerades as a sidedish but you can have it for dessert. Cafe Brasil makes these exceptionally well, and they are a killer combination with the Lizano sauce. Yum!
