Santa Cruz de la Sierra

Santa Cruz de la Sierra, Bolivia

Bolivia’s street art scene is on the rise, and many artists use the art form to convey both political and social issues affecting the people of the region. In downtown Santa Cruz de la Sierra, an entire mural wall is completely devoted to ARTErias Urbanas, a facility for veteran and novice street artists. The collective has many works on display throughout the city, but I found this mural particularly powerful. It seems to be an ode to the indigenous people of the Andes that have migrated into the city center, which is a constant topic of debate after Bolivia’s first-ever native President was elected to office, Evo Morales.
