The Santa Barbara Museum of Natural History Sea Center anchors the end of Stearns Wharf. Sitting directly above the Pacific Ocean, it offers interactive marine exhibitions and a window onto the Santa Barbara Channel, as well as a kid-friendly shark touch tank and tidal pool tank. The Sea Center is run by volunteer docents that teach visitors about the local intertidal flora, fauna, and wildlife, whether it’s a mermaid’s purse (the egg capsule that surrounds the fertilized eggs of sharks and skates), varieties of seagrass, or hermit crabs.
