Santa Barbara Museum of Art

Santa Barbara Museum of Art
No West Coast museum owns more Monet paintings than the Santa Barbara Museum of Art. Within its 60,000-square-feet the museum boasts 27,000 works of art from Rauschenbergs and Chagalls to Kandinskys, Rodins and Rosseaus. Not bad for a city with a population of 92,000 (roughly 1/43 that of Los Angeles).

Established in 1941, its mission is "to integrate art into the lives of people." A robust series of lectures, exhibits, and events, after school classes, Thursday and Sunday workshops for kids wanting to learn how to draw and paint ensure that this institution is frequented by tourists and locals alike.
