The Review:
The Dominican Republic’s beaches are lined with all-inclusive resorts, but this one—set inside the private Cap Cana gated community, not far from Punta Cana airport—stands out for its upgraded (and adults-only) take on the format. Recently emerged from a $45 million “elevation,” Sanctuary Cap Cana now features bright, airy suites and villas, some with access to a private concierge level. All have separate sleeping and living areas, furnished patios or balconies, jetted tubs, and perks like pillow menus and complimentary mini-bars (that get re-stocked daily.) Some look out at the gardens, others the sea or beach, and some also have private hot tubs or direct swim-out access to the saltwater pool that snakes around the resort. The five on-site dining options range from casual to formal, Pan-Asian to American Steakhouse to live teppanyaki; there are also more dining options—including a food truck—across the street in Sanctuary Town, a community connected to the resort. Other resort facilities include a selection of bars, five pools (one with a swim-up bar), a revamped fitness center, and a beautiful spa with hydrotherapy circuit and pampering rituals. Things like watersports off the white sand beach and nightly entertainment are included, while extras like golfing on a famous nearby course and day trip excursions are available for an additional cost.
