Gates Adorned with Buddhist Art
Buddha lived many lives, sometimes as humans as well as animals. Each panel on the gates around the stupa is laden with tales from Jatakas. Vines, lotuses, lions, and elephants, symbols of triumph and fertility—rich, vivid, ornamental gateways. This panel shows the dharmachakra, an important symbol in this canon, as well as tridents.

Sanchi is an architectural wonder from 3 B.C.E., about an hour's ride from Bhopal, the capital of Madhya Pradesh, in the hot, arid centre of India.
