Known as the Sunrise City for its location at Aruba’s southeastern tip, San Nicolas has rich multicultural roots. The streets are full of art and the sounds of Caribbean music, like calypso and tumba—especially during the Carubbian Festival held every Thursday evening from June to December (6-10pm). At its center, there’s a high-energy staged show with dancers, fire-eaters, and all sorts of fast-paced performances. The party spills through Main Street, which closes to traffic, and numerous stalls sell local crafts, food, and drinks. Started only a few years back, the Carubbian Festival is a taste of Aruba-style carnival all year long. It’s quickly become a tradition and a lively party where you can mingle with locals.
