San Miguel Shopping
San Miguel ShoppingThe colonial town of San Miguel is a shopper’s paradise, with everything from traditional markets to unique boutiques. The Mercado San Juan de Dios is one of the city’s main food markets, where you can shop for souvenirs like cajeta, the goat’s milk caramel that is a Mexican favorite, and dried herbs and chilis. The Mercado de Artesanias is the main crafts market, with vendors selling baskets, blankets, and jewelry. There are also some food vendors if you want to refuel while shopping. The city has countless higher-end shopping destinations too. Aurora is located in a former textile factory just outside the historic district. The converted space now houses dozens of different boutiques, several art galleries, and a restaurant and a coffee bar. The prices may be higher, but in exchange you’ll find curated selections of high-quality pieces. In the heart of town, not far from San Miguel’s main square, Dôce 18 Concept House is a collection of boutiques and restaurants, with a rooftop bar scheduled to open soon. One of the joys of exploring San Miguel, however, is discovering interesting independent stores scattered throughout the city’s historic heart.
