San Juan, a small town situated on the west side of Lake Atitlan, offers visitors some very authentic and amazing fabrics to purchase. These fabrics are authentic; made usually by the store owner or another local, they are on display and you are encouraged to look and buy. We found a particularly special place, a woman's co-op. This co-op hires local artists around San Juan and sells their work. When you make a purchase, you are given the artist's name, the dyes used (the dyes are all natural; they literally make the dyes in their homes), and the amount of time it took the make the product. They also have demonstrations on how they make fabric from cotton, how they make dyes, and how they weave their products. Check out their website at http://www.woven-gt.com/.
