Escape the Carnival Crowds atop San Giorgio Maggiore
Every day tons of people wait on line in St. Mark's Square. Whether you're queuing to enter the Cathedral, ascend the Campanile, or visit the Ducal Palace you will probably have to wait. Those are all fantastic options but to escape the long epic crowds try a visit across the lagoon to the island of San Giorgio Maggiore. The church itself is a beautiful example of Palladian Architecture and well worth a tour. But the tiny island's true destination is the Campanile, or Bell Tower. The views are epic. On a nice day you get a bird's eye view of picturesque Venice. Plus you get to ride the Vaporetto to visit! It's especially cost effective if you have an unlimited Vaporetto, or water bus, pass. These passes are more than worth it if you plan to use the Vaporetto frequently.
