Just beneath State Street, there’s a cave, its walls and ceilings and floors lined with over 60 tons of pink crystalline salt that was imported from the Khewra Salt Mine in Pakistan. The salt cave was created as a place for wellness treatments and classes, according to the New Age precept that there are health benefits to salt, especially Himalayan salt, which apparently contains the same 94 “natural minerals and trace elements that are found in the human body.” In addition to healing group sessions (in which participants sit in zero-gravity chairs, listen to quiet music, and breathe in all the mineral goodness) and salt-scrub spa treatments, Salt also offers opportunities for aromatherapy, reiki healing, “sound yoga,” and dance classes, all conducted within the rosy pink cave. Visitors can purchase bath salts and locally made soaps, spa kits, face masks, hair products, and body scrubs at the on-site shop.
