Salkantay Trek Peru

Peru's Salkantay Trek
If you're up for an adventure of a lifetime, add Peru's Salkantay Trek to your "must do" list. On a recent adventure with Pure Quest Adventures and Lima Tours, we traversed 40 miles through mountain passes and trails on the Salkantay trail before reaching Machu Picchu. Salkantay mountain is the highest peak of the Willkapampa mountain range, part of the Peruvian Andes. At a towering 20,574 feet, Salkantay is known as "Savage Mountain" and is referred to by the local people as a wild mountain. Machu Picchu lies directly north of Salkantay, which makes the Salkantay Trek a less crowded route to Machu Picchu than the well-known Inca Trail.
Journey Well on the Salkantay Trail
There are several paths to Machu Picchu: you can take the train and bus to reach this historic site, or you can have an adventure with a memorable and more scenic route like the Salkantay Trek. With Pure Quest Adventures and Lima Tours, the Salkantay Trek is the perfect mix of adventure and comfort. Porters and horses transport the luggage, and after a long day of hiking you arrive to your campground. A cozy tent awaits you, as well as gourmet three-course meals thoughtfully prepared by a team of talented campground chefs. An expedition with PureQuest allows you to challenge your limits, while giving you comfort throughout your journey so you can concentrate on what is most important: the experience itself.

The impressive Sacred Inca city of Machupicchu is visited on the last day of the program. Salkantay Trek to Machu Picchu
What an awesome trek! We finished at Machu Picchu and the diversity of eco-systems was unbelievable. Inca Trail Machu is a great company (http://www.incatrailmachu.com). Everything was organised and really we were catered for so well, I am very impressed. I have heard some companies cut corners with expenses and Inca Trail Machu does not, yet the price was great. I had a lovely horse named Patcha, very surefooted, strong yet gentle. Wish I could bring him home with me. Really had all the comfort and warmth (great sleeping bag) you could have on a mountain trek. The meals were healthy and energy packed and very yummy. I could do it all over again, but really need to rest for a week or so. I would highly recommend Inca Trail Machu as a Travel Company in Peru. Very professional and very caring.

Salkantay Trek
Thinking about Trekking to Machu Picchu?. The first thing that came to mind was probably to hike the Inca Trail to Machu Picchu.

Because of excessive crowds the Peruvian government decided not only to limit daily access but also to impose strict Inca Trail Regulations. We understand how frustrating it is to not be able to get a permit because you didn't book 4 months in advance and there are no permits left.
