Fête de la Sainte-Baume
Dedicating their day to the 5th century hermit, Honorat, the towns people of St Raphael celebrate the first Sunday of May with an hour long hike into the Estérel hills behind the town. Led by costumed drummers and pipers, they walk up Cap Roux to the Saint Baume grotto. The dress code runs from modern sneakers to 18th century breeches as the hike ends in a sung mass, followed by a celebratory apéritif offered to all. Tables are set for picnickers to spread out their feast and share a moment in the sun with music to dance the day away.
