Saint-Mathieu Lighthouse

Located on the Pointe Saint-Mathieu, about 30 kilometers (19 miles) west of Brest, this 19th-century lighthouse rises 37 meters (121 feet) above the rugged Brittany coast. A historic monument, the red-and-white lighthouse stands amid the ruins of an ancient Benedictine abbey. Visitors are welcome to climb to the top for outstanding views of the surrounding coastline. Nearby, wander the narrow cobblestoned streets and see the traditional stone houses of the lively fishing port of Le Conquet.
