Hiking through the Pyrenees
When you start the Camino de Santiago in St--Jean-Pied-de-port, France your first day takes you up through the Pyrenees and back down into Spain. This first day is magical. It is about a 29km hike which starts early among the morning mist. Day one is a continuous uphill climb but the scenery, smells and the beauty of the Pyrenees make you forget any discomfort you might have. The day we hiked, most of the day we spent walking amongst the clouds but in the afternoon the sun came out in full force and the clouds broke up and just floated like pillows resting in the beautiful green valleys. One of my favorite things was hearing the sound of the cowbells in the distance. So peaceful and pastoral. The hike brings you down into Roncevalles, Spain for the night. This cute village has a lot of french influence and charm but get there early because the beds fill up fast. If your in the area this is an amazing day hike.
