It is interesting for me that after traveling so much in Asia I still hear about vegetarians having a hard time in the region. Despite the vegetarian nature of the Buddhism that has such an influence on the region, meat is so prized people cannot understand why you would go without. With that said, to my surprise while staying with a friend on Jeju Island in South Korea, she wanted to take me to the "Happy Tea Room" for a full vegetarian meal. I will be honest… I am not 100% sure what I ate… but it was good, especially the pickles. The zen-like atmosphere of the restaurant, which was located on the second floor of the chefs’ residence, has a unique atmosphere. Not that Jeju with its Hawaiian-like atmosphere needs many quiet getaways, but if you’re searching for one, this your place.
