Sage French Cake & Coffee

3860 Convoy St #112, San Diego, CA 92111, USA

I don’t come here often because this is a very dangerous place for my waistline. The desserts are made in the French style—light, fluffy, not too sweet, and seemingly zero calories. Sage Cake is found in the Kearny Mesa neighborhood of San Diego and run by a handsome, older Japanese man. My husband and I had a delicate chocolate/raspberry ganache made from here for our wedding cake. Months later, we stopped by and asked if he had any raspberry ganache, to which he replied that it became “too boring” to make—only a master can say such things. He bakes for his own whim, not for ours! When packing your order, he will break off a chunk of dry ice with his bare hands and put it into the box to keep your desserts cool. They don’t have a website. Tip: The seating isn’t very comfortable, and it’s not really a sit-down place. You will probably want to pick up your desserts and take them home to eat. Or, you can eat there and then wander over to check out the Japanese grocery store next door.
